Julie Schulkers, MSN, APRN, FNP-C is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner who specializes in caring for patients recovering from cardiothoracic surgery with The Christ Hospital Physicians – Heart & Vascular.
Julie decided to pursue a career in nursing after witnessing the compassionate care given to a close family member who spent several weeks in an ICU. “I knew then that I wanted to develop the knowledge and expertise to provide the excellent, empathetic care that I’d watched a loved one receive,” she says. She decided to further pursue a career as a Nurse Practitioner because it afforded the opportunity to spend more time with patients and provide more personal, holistic care.
Her care philosophy focuses on educating her patients in order to empower them to make proactive decisions not only about their plan of care, but for their long-term wellness. She is a strong advocate for patients to ask questions to be sure they completely understand what is going on with their health.
Julie earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northern Kentucky University and a Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of Cincinnati. She is board-certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
When not caring for patients, Julie enjoys spending time with her husband and children. She also loves to travel, hike, explore national and local parks, and run.
