Team members at The Christ Hospital Health Network celebrate the first in Ohio VenaCore device procedure to benefit patients with deep-vein thrombosis.

Surgeons at The Christ Hospital Perform First Ever in Ohio VenaCore Catheter Procedure for Blood Clot Patients

Latest Technology to Benefit Those with Deep-Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

CINCINNATI (June 17, 2024) – The Christ Hospital Health Network is the first health system in Ohio to use the INARI VenaCore device for those suffering with chronic deep-vein thrombosis (DVT). Venous Thromboembolism causes a blood clot, usually in the leg, and is the third most common cause of death from cardiovascular disease after heart attack and stroke.

Patients with a history of blood clots that have progressed to chronic DVTs and post thrombotic syndrome, especially in their legs, are good candidates for the VenaCore device. The unique coring element with notched edges are designed specifically to engage and remove chronic clot and synechiae while minimizing trauma to the vessel wall which leads to improved vascular flow.

Research and studies show that 20-50% of DVT patients will end up with post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS), a devastating condition with poor quality of life. Persistent venous occlusions are thought to contribute to the development in patients with a history of DVT.

“Until now, physicians have had limited options to effectively treat patients with chronic venous occlusions in the legs,” said Derek Zipkin, MD, at The Christ Hospital Health Network. “This minimally invasive surgery is the latest tool in our arsenal to treat cardiovascular patients with this potentially debilitating syndrome. By providing the VenaCore device, patients will have shorter recovery times and better outcomes without having to leave the Cincinnati area for the latest technology and advancements in vascular care. It’s another example of the team at The Christ Hospital Health Network doing everything it takes for our patients.”
