$29 Heart Screening Test for Prevention & Early Detection

Finding heart problems early can add years to your life and help you enjoy better health. Unfortunately, most insurance plans may not cover cardiovascular screening tests without symptoms.

That’s why The Christ Hospital offers an affordable heart and vascular screening for prevention and early detection. It costs only $29. It’s non-invasive (no instruments will be inserted in your body), pain-free and takes just 20 minutes.

You may qualify for the screening if you:

  • Are age 60 or older

  • Are age 50-59 with one or more of the following risk factors:

  • High cholesterol

  • High blood pressure

  • Diabetes

  • History of smoking

  • Prior heart disease or heart surgery

  • Family history of abdominal aortic aneurysm, heart attack, and/or stroke.

Our heart and vascular screening includes three quick tests that can diagnose:

  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) - This occurs when an area of the aorta enlarges or balloons. The aorta is the main blood vessel that supplies blood to the rest of the body.

  • Atrial fibrillation (AFib) - An irregular and often very fast heartbeat that can lead to heart-related complications.

  • Carotid artery disease – Carotid arteries provide blood to your brain. They can become narrowed or blocked and lead to a stroke.

  • Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) –This condition involves poor blood flow in the arteries in the legs.

Abdominal and carotid artery screening

For these ultrasound tests, you will lie on your back on an exam table. The vascular sonographer will apply a small amount of clear gel to your abdomen and/or neck. An ultrasound probe is moved painlessly over the area to acquire images and assess blood flow.

To prepare for these tests, you must eat a light meal the night before, then fast (not eat or drink) for six hours prior to your test. Take your medications with a few sips of water. On the day of your test, please wear a loose open-collar shirt or blouse.

Peripheral vascular screening

While you are on the exam table, the sonographer will use blood pressure cuffs and a Doppler ultrasound probe to listen to the arteries and measure your blood pressure in each arm and both ankles.

AFib screening

With just the touch of your fingers, an advanced electrocardiogram (EKG) checks your heart for electrical issues associated with AFib.

The results of your screening will be reviewed by one of our renowned cardiologists and vascular surgeons. We’ll send a final report to both you and your referring doctor.
