Understanding Birth eClass

Can’t come to a childbirth class? We’ll bring it to you! Consider the Understanding Birth eClass your go-to guide for answers you can trust on childbirth. This interactive online module course covers essential information on labor and more, and highlights ways partners can help throughout the process. You’ll also get a sense of what labor is really like as you watch several birth stories.

Virtual Baby Care Class

Parents will learn about the basics of baby care including normal newborn behavior and characteristics. Infant safety issues including car seat safety, safe sleep, safe feeding practices, home safety, and bathing safety are discussed. Basic diapering and care principles are included.

Virtual Breastfeeding Class

We will discuss normal newborn behaviors, feeding patterns, positions and attachment techniques, recognizing your infant is getting enough milk and common questions and concerns about breastfeeding.

Virtual Comfort Measures Class

In this one time, 2 hour class, participants will learn and practice strategies to prepare for labor, non-pharmaceutical comfort techniques for labor such as positioning, counter pressure, and creating a comfortable labor environment. Techniques will be discussed to aid in unmedicated labor as well as to complement pain medication, including an epidural, in order to facilitate labor progress as well as comfort. It is assumed that participants will have either taken the Prepared Childbirth class or are already knowledgeable of the stages and phases of labor. It can be helpful to have a comfortable space to practice some of the positions and hands-on comfort measures during the class.

This class pairs well with the Virtual Comfort Measures Class, which builds upon information presented in the Prepared Comfort Class with labor positions and comfort techniques to aid in labor progress and comfort, with or without an epidural.
