Jacob M. Gunzenhaeuser, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with expertise in treating injuries and disorders of the shoulders, knees and hips. He is skilled at performing total shoulder, knee and hip replacements, and has a special interest in sports-related injuries and arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery.
Dr. Gunzenhaeuser treats patients from all walks of life who suffer from sudden joint injury or long-term joint conditions. “The most rewarding part of my job is helping patients who were in extreme pain get back to enjoying sports, their jobs and their everyday, active lifestyles,” he says. “Getting to be a part of that is really something special.”
Deeply tied to the Cincinnati area, Dr. Gunzenhaeuser earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of Cincinnati Department of Orthopaedic Surgery before undertaking a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Tennessee-Campbell Clinic Orthopaedics in Memphis.
Dr. Gunzenhaeuser is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and is proud to be following in his father’s footsteps as a Christ Hospital Health Network Physician.
Outside of work, Dr. Gunzenhaeuser enjoys playing golf, traveling and spending time with his wife, their children Ethan and Rory, and their two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Jerry and Gracie. He tries to live each day with a positive outlook and is grateful for the partnerships he builds with his patients. “My patients inspire me every day,” he says. “When you see patients taking ownership of their condition and doing everything they need to do to maximize a positive outcome – including physical therapy – it’s so gratifying.”
