Mariana Canoniero, MD, is a cardiology specialist with The Christ Hospital Physicians – Heart & Vascular. Her areas of interest include advanced cardiac imaging of the heart and vascular systems, and cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Canoniero chose a career in medicine based on her own family experiences with loved ones having cardiac diseases. “This helps me to be able to heal and connect with my patients at the same time,” Dr. Canoniero says. She takes a patient-centered approach to heart care, listening to her patients’ concerns and providing education so they can make informed decisions.
Dr. Canoniero earned her medical degree with honors from the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina. She completed her internal medicine residency and internship at the University of Miami, where she also served as chief resident. She then completed her fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
During her fellowship, she was presented the Anthony L. Garofalo Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Award in recognition of her research on the early detection, prevention, and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
Prior to joining The Christ Hospital, Dr. Canoniero practiced cardiology for 12 years at Health Partners in Minneapolis, where she also served on the patient experience team and as a physician coach.
Dr. Canoniero’s cardiovascular research has been published in numerous medical journals, including the Journals of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation, Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, Annals of Thoracic Surgery, and Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions.
Her professional memberships include The American Heart Association, The American Society of Echocardiography, The American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, The American College of Cardiology, and the Society of Computed Tomography.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Canoniero enjoys tennis, trying new recipes, cake decorating, and discovering new places with her husband and family.
