Michael P. Palmer, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with The Christ Hospital Physicians – Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. He is skilled in arthroscopic procedures of the knee, hip, and shoulder, as well as total joint replacement surgery, ligament reconstruction, ACL repairs, rotator cuff injuries, shoulder impingement, and labral tears. He also serves as Medical Director of Musculoskeletal Services at The Christ Hospital Health Network.
Dr. Palmer loves how the field of orthopedics is constantly evolving, offering him the opportunity to bring new and better treatments and technologies to his patients. “The evolution of how we’re able to care for our patients is an exciting part of our field,” he says.
As a former Air Force surgeon who served at both Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and in Afghanistan, Dr. Palmer gained extensive trauma surgery experience as well as lifetime friendships in the military. “There is a bond among veterans that is very special to me,” he says.
Prior to his Air Force active duty, Dr. Palmer earned his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. After fulfilling his military commitment, he completed the Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at Cincinnati Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center.
Dr. Palmer is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Association, as well as a traveling fellow with the Herodicus Society. He is a member of multiple professional medical associations, including the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is also a proud member of the teaching faculty for the Cincinnati Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center’s Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship Program.
Outside of treating patients, Dr. Palmer and his wife, who is also a surgeon, enjoy spending time with their growing family that now includes four children.
