Students Will Watch Livestreaming Open-Heart Surgery

CINCINNATI (October 31, 2024) – The Christ Hospital Health Network and The Christ College of Nursing & Health Sciences are partnering with the Hamilton County Educational Service Center to host Healthcare in a Day. The event will showcase various healthcare careers students can pursue.

The event will take place in the auditorium of The Christ Hospital in Mt. Auburn on Friday, November 1 from 8:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. Professionals working across the healthcare spectrum at The Christ Hospital will talk about their career and educational pathways.

At 8:40 a.m., Saad Hasan, MD, Cardiothoracic Surgeon at The Christ Hospital Health Network will perform open-heart surgery that will be live streamed to students at the career day. Robert Dowling, MD, Surgical Director of The Christ Hospital Heart Transplant Program, will narrate the surgery for students to learn.

Debbie Hayes, President and CEO of The Christ Hospital Health Network and Dr. Amy Wutke, President of The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences, will welcome teachers and students before the day begins. Medical professionals from a number of departments including nursing, sonography, radiation tech, medical assisting and others will present to the students. The Christ College will also showcase programs and degrees students can pursue on The Christ Hospital campus.

Twenty area high schools will participate, including Aiken High School, Anderson High School, Beechwood High School, Butler Tech Bioscience, Colerain High School, Deer Park High School, Georgetown High School, Harrison High School, Lakota East High School, Laurel Oaks Career Center, Milford High School, North College Hill High School, Randall K. Cooper High School, Shroder High School, Southern Hills CTC, Taft High School, Talawanda High School, Turpin High School, Western Brown High School and William Henry Harrison High School.
