The Christ Hospital Wants Patients to Get a Good Night’s Sleep For Life

Specialists Have Performed More than 200 Inspire Procedures Treating Sleep Apnea

CINCINNATI (September 26, 2024) – Matthew Hensler, MD, joins Joseph Hellmann, MD, as one of two Ear, Nose and Throat specialists at The Christ Hospital Health Network to perform 100 procedures using the Inspire implant to treat Sleep Apnea. The Inspire Company has recognized the two as Physicians of Excellence for demonstrating their commitment to deliver exceptional patient experience.

Dr. Hellmann and Dr. Hensler have been two of the leading providers in Greater Cincinnati offering the innovative treatment. Inspire is an FDA-approved obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) treatment option for people who have failed conservative treatment, including a trial of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy. This implantable device activates nerves that push the tongue and palate of your mouth forward each time you breathe. The therapy is controlled by the user with a small handheld remote and eliminates the need to wear a mask at night. “Sleep apnea is a condition that, if not treated properly, can have multiple negative impacts on your overall health,” said Dr. Hensler. “Being able to bring much needed relief and care for our patients is something our entire team takes pride in. Patients suffering from this sleep disorder have an option at a better quality of life through the Inspire implant.”

An estimated 22 million people suffer from sleep apnea, waking up frequently at night due to air flow blockage. Unfortunately, many go untreated which can lead to devastating health issues down the road.

“Overall, the Inspire implant can be life changing. Although no treatment is 100% effective, the success rate of this option is better than any surgical treatment that we have used in the past.”
