The Christ Hospital Earns Highest Rating for Quality by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid

Only 8.2% of Hospitals Reviewed Received the Five-Star Rating

CINCINNATI (August 5, 2024) – The Christ Hospital has received a five-star rating from The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings List for 2024. 381 hospitals received a five-star rating while The Christ Hospital is one of only 20 in Ohio.

CMS’ star rating system, which launched in 2016, assigns stars based on 46 quality measures in the following five categories: mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience and timely and effective care. CMS rated more than 4,600 hospitals with the following breakdown: one star: 277 hospitals, two stars: 595, three stars: 828, four stars: 766, five stars: 381. Only 8.2% of hospitals reviewed were awarded a five-star rating.

The Star Ratings help hospitals drive systematic improvements in care and safety harnessing the power of process improvement to improve quality and lower costs. Consumers and patients point to Hospital Compare and the Star Ratings as important resources by which they determine who their provider of care will be.

“The CMS Star Rating system provides great insight on the care we provide to our patients and the community that we serve,” said Debbie Hayes President and CEO of The Christ Hospital Health Network. “We are honored to be among an elite group of hospitals that achieved the highest rating offered by CMS. Our pursuit of excellence reinforces that our talented and dedicated team members at The Christ Hospital continue to do everything it takes to be the healthcare destination for the region.”

This award comes on the heels of The Christ Hospital being named the #1 Hospital in the Cincinnati Region for the tenth year in a row by U.S. News & World Report and among America’s Best Hospitals for cardiology, cancer and orthopedics by Newsweek for 2024.
