The Christ Hospital Health Network is pleased to announce that Costa Andreou, MD, FACC, MBA, FACHE, has accepted the position of Chief Clinical Officer and President of The Christ Hospital Physicians (TCHP). Dr. Andreou will begin in January 2021.
“We are excited to have Dr. Andreou join The Christ Hospital team,” said Debbie Hayes, Interim CEO. “A physician leader of his caliber strengthens our capabilities as we continue our work to improve the health of the community. His professional achievements and experience, passion for physician engagement, and ability to recruit exceptional physicians to the area, furthers our commitment to provide the best care to the Greater Cincinnati region.”
As its president, Dr. Andreou will play a critical role in leading TCHP in supporting The Christ Hospital’s strategic initiatives. This includes integrating and optimizing care across the inpatient, outpatient and post-acute continuum, strengthening The Christ Hospital’s efforts in transitioning from volume-based to value-based reimbursement. He will also serve as the CEO and executive leadership team’s chief advisor on clinical quality, experience and safety.
Dr. Andreou chose to pursue the administrative side of medicine because of his passion for empowering physicians to become leaders. One of his primary goals will be to further establish The Christ Hospital physician practices as the region’s preeminent multidisciplinary group by fostering these leadership skills, recruiting new physician leaders to the network, and encouraging an environment of collaboration and transparency.
A South African native, Dr. Andreou received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBCh) degrees from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He went on to complete his Internal Medicine Residency at Bassett Healthcare (affiliated with Columbia University), his Fellowships in Cardiology (General and Cardiomyopathy), at Boston University Medical Center where he was a Merck Fellow of American College of Cardiology, and Interventional Cardiology from The University of Massachusetts Medical Center. He obtained his Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Certificate in Health Sector Management from Duke University.
He has extensive experience in hospital and practice leadership, including acute care service line leadership, Chief Medical Officer roles, and, more recently, as Executive Vice President for CaroMont Medical Group and CaroMont Health in North Carolina.
For the past three years, Dr. Andreou has served on the legislative council for the North Carolina Medical Society, a physician advocacy organization that exists alongside lawmakers for the fair and accurate representation of physicians. He was also appointed by the North Carolina Speaker of the House to the Board of the North Carolina Institute of Medicine, an independent organization focused on improving the health and wellbeing of North Carolinians.
