John Frankel, MD, is a fellowship-trained colorectal surgeon with The Christ Hospital Physicians – Colon & Rectal Surgery. He specializes in minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery for a wide range of complex colorectal conditions including complex colorectal conditions including colon cancer, rectal cancer, anal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, complex anorectal disease, and pelvic floor disorders.
Shaping his views of patient care, Dr. Frankel recalls fond memories growing up of his father, also a physician, and how he treated his patients. “I was impressed with how he cared for people and wanted to do the same,” Dr. Frankel says.
“Every person is unique, so it’s very important for me to understand who the person is and their goals before coming up with a treatment plan,” Dr. Frankel says. “The patient is the most important factor in surgical decision making.”
Dr. Frankel earned a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry at the University of Southern California. He completed medical school at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He completed his surgical internship and general surgery residency at the University of Colorado. He then completed fellowships in robotics/minimally invasive surgery at the University of Colorado and Colon and rectal surgery at the University of Kentucky.
