Sarah Newman, PA-C is a board-certified Physician Assistant with The Christ Hospital Physicians – Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine who specializes in care for orthopedic neurosurgery patients. She provides inpatient care at The Christ Hospital Joint & Spine Center in Mt. Auburn.
Sarah underwent major knee reconstruction as a child and was inspired by the care she received during her challenging recovery, an experience which led her to pursue a career in medicine. “My care team ensured that I was not scared and that I knew what was happening at every step of the way,” she says. “I hope to bring that same sense of comfort to my patients and be with them throughout their entire recovery in the hospital.”
She values providing care as a member of a multidisciplinary team grounded in a shared respect and ultimate priority of putting the patient first. She sees each patient as a unique individual, not as a diagnosis, and she places an emphasis on making sure each patient has a full understanding of their condition and their care options, so they can feel confident in making shared decisions about their care.
Sarah encourages her patients to focus on the things they CAN do during their recovery, versus the things they can’t yet do. “When you find encouragement in those accomplishments, you can harness the drive to keep working toward more improvements and you’ll find yourself able to do more than you ever thought,” she says.
She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology with an accelerated pathway to Physician Assistant Studies, and her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Elon University. She is certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants.
In her free time, Sarah enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, traveling, and going to the beach. She also loves to cook new recipes, watch movies, and try new restaurants.
