About Rafiullah Khan, MD

Dr. Khan is a Hematology and Oncology Physician with a particular interest in lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and stem cell transplantation, cellular therapies, and Adoptive Immune Therapy. He graduated with honors from Khyber Medical College Peshawar( Pakistan) in 2002, earning his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). After completing his Residency in Pakistan he moved to the United States of America in 2008 to pursue further post-graduate training. Dr. Khan completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine (NY), serving as Chief Resident before working as a hospitalist for over seven years. For two years, he dedicated himself to the Academic Blood and Marrow Transplant program at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where he worked under the supervision of Dr. Guido Tricot, a world-leading multiple myeloma expert.

Before relocating to Cincinnati and becoming the Chief Research Fellow of the Hematology and Oncology Fellowship Program at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Khan concentrated on health economics, earning his MBA from the University of Massachusetts (UMass) Amherst. He also worked with leading experts in the field of hematology and lymphoma.

Dr. Khan possesses a vast amount of clinical research experience and is published in National and International PubMed indexed medical journals. Dr. Khan has published and presented his research in International Liver Cancer Meeting in Canada, American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Society of Hematology (ASH) & American Society of Bone Marrow Transplantation. Dr. Khan has won many research and academic awards during his career. He won several awards, including the best graduate award in Medical School, Research Chief Fellow Award, first place in Clinical Research at the University of Cincinnati in Annual Research Symposium, and received a grant from ACGME.

Teaching is essential to Dr. Khan, who worked as teaching faculty at Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa and is interested in teaching and is mentoring medical residents through the ASCO mentorship program.

With a particular interest in lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and stem cell transplant, he is highly knowledgeable about medical treatments for all blood disorders. He is also interested in promising new CAR T-Cell, cellular therapies, and stem cell transplantation. He has a passion for treating his patients with the most advanced biologics and molecularly targeted therapies available through precision medicine. He also offers his patients clinical trial options based on patient choice and interest.

No matter how far medicine has come, some treatments can take a toll on a patient’s physical and emotional health. Dr. Khan combines advanced medicine with compassionate care, forming a close connection with his patients and their loved ones. “ I treat my patients like my family and always try to bring a smile to my patients and their loved ones. This was a brief visit. I'm usually given the opportunity to ask questions, but today was very rushed. I had wanted to discuss some ongoing issues and he was pretty much interested in getting out the door.
