Tawny Wilson, APRN, is a certified family nurse practitioner with The Christ Hospital Physician-Genetic Counseling who cares for oncology patients of The Christ Hospital who receive genetic services to help their care team develop individualized plans to reduce their cancer risk or maximize their care based on their genetic makeup.
Tawny comes from a family of healthcare providers, and she was inspired by them to pursue a career in nursing and to serve people in need by helping them achieve their best health. During nursing school, she worked as a PCA serving cancer patients at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. “I not only fell in love with the patient population and their families but also the continuous research and advancements in this field,” she says. That passion for research and innovation has driven her to pursue a path providing care that combines the advances made in oncology and precision health.
Her approach to providing care is focused on compassionate, patient-centered care that considers the fact that every patient has unique needs, beliefs, and goals that are important when determining each individual care plan. “I find it important to be culturally competent and, especially in areas of oncology and high risk, being respectful of the needs, values, and beliefs not only of the patient but of their family as well,” she says.
Tawny has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The Christ College of Nursing & Health Sciences and a Master of Science in Nursing from Northern Kentucky University. She is certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and is a member of the Oncology Nursing Society.
