Emergency Room Care at The Christ Hospital
Accidents, injuries and life-threatening emergencies can happen in the blink of an eye and can be as scary as they are sudden. That’s why it’s important to know where to seek care before an emergency strikes.
Whether you need prompt care for a broken bone or life-saving treatment for a heart attack, you can count on The Christ Hospital Health Network. With two emergency room (ER) locations in Greater Cincinnati, we’re ready to handle most health crises at any time.
Our experienced team includes doctors, nurses and other professionals who specialize in:
Many people who come to the ER can go home after they’re treated. However, some patients need complex treatments like surgery or intensive care. If you’re admitted to the hospital, you can take comfort knowing The Christ Hospital offers expert care, abundant attention and strong support.
When to seek emergency care
It’s not always easy to know when you need emergency care. Our ER teams treat a wide range of injuries and other medical emergencies. These include:
Behavioral health crises including panic attacks and episodes of bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.
Brain or spine injuries such as concussions, skull fractures and spinal cord injuries.
Breathing problems caused by allergic reactions, asthma, COPD or pneumonia.
Heart problems ranging from chest pain and heart attacks to acute heart failure.
Orthopedic injuries such as broken bones, dislocated joints and torn ligaments.
Overdose of (or exposure to) harmful substances, including alcohol, illegal drugs, prescription or over-the-counter drugs, household chemicals or poisonous plants.
Pregnancy emergencies including vaginal bleeding, premature contractions or decreased fetal movement.
Strokes, brain aneurysms and other cerebrovascular emergencies.
Traumatic injuries such as gunshot wounds, severe cuts or serious burns.
Unexpected or unexplained symptoms like severe pain, sudden high fever, fainting, seizures, slurred speech, confusion or sudden weakness in an arm or leg.
Our approach to emergency care
No matter what brings you to our ER, your health, safety and comfort are top priorities. At The Christ Hospital Health Network, we use a “triage” system to screen and sort patients based on the severity or urgency of your symptoms. This process helps us provide the right care, by the right type of specialist—and helps you have a prompt, positive experience.
Depending on your needs, you’ll be treated in one of two areas:
Our Express Emergency Care service is ideal for patients with mild illnesses or minor injuries. These include cold and flu symptoms, sore throats, earaches, sprains, rashes and small wounds that may need stitches or staples. Because you’re treated separately from patients who need complex care, you can be seen more quickly.
Our acute emergency care services are reserved for patients with troubling or severe symptoms. These include chest pain, trouble breathing, confusion, slurred speech, loss of consciousness, paralysis or heavy bleeding. Patients with serious conditions often need thorough evaluations and lengthy or more complicated treatments.
If you know your symptoms are not life-threatening, but your regular doctor’s office is closed, you can also visit one of our urgent care centers. The Christ Hospital Health Network offers walk-in urgent care services at three convenient locations, seven days a week.
