About James A. Kong, MD

Dr. Kong practices general and interventional cardiology, including coronary peripheral and venous intervention. In layman's terms, he treats general conditions affecting the heart, with a special emphasis on circulatory blockages of the heart and the arterial system. He performs angioplasty, stenting, and the minimally invasive treatment of varicose veins.

Born and raised in Dayton, OH, his father was an engineer and his mother was a physician. He earned an undergraduate degree in engineering at Duke University, and then went on to medical school while staying at Duke. Dr. Kong came directly to Ohio Heart and Vascular Center in 2005, after his fellowship at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center.

He and his wife have two children, a boy and a girl. They are dog lovers, and have rescued several dogs over the years. Dr. Kong is interested in fitness, martial arts and self-defense. He also follows college basketball, and his alma mater, the Duke Blue Devils.

Dr. Kong finds the most rewarding part of being a physician is seeing patients improve. "When patients come in after I have treated them and say, 'I feel better,' that's the best thing that I can hear."
