Jacqlyn Riemersma, MD, is a physician who specializes in obstetrics & gynecology with The Christ Hospital Physicians – Obstetrics & Gynecology. She provides care for women at the Mt. Auburn and Green Township locations.
Dr. Riemersma had a lot of exposure from an early age to healthcare providers, hospital settings, and medical research after her sister was diagnosed at four years old with a very rare metabolic disorder that led to an intellectual disability. “I was interested in medicine throughout, and I really enjoyed working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities,” she says. “But as my interests evolved over time, I fell in love with obstetrics & gynecology, so I pursued that field.”
Like many physicians, Dr. Riemersma says she has a love for science and being inquisitive. “But being a doctor is so much more than that,” she says. “It's my job as a provider to take the best research available and pair that with my clinical expertise, but to view this through the lens of a patient's particular values, preferences, and circumstances. It's that last piece that makes a difference.”
She empowers her patients to feel confident in their role as their own best advocate. She encourages them to share their views with their doctor, but also to be willing to ask for resources of information or ask any questions that can help them learn more about their condition and their health.
Dr. Riemersma earned a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Behavior from the University of Notre Dame and her Medical Degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. She completed her residency in obstetrics & gynecology at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where she served as Chief Resident during her final year and was awarded the Arthur T. Evans MD Resident of Excellence Award, the SMFM Residency Program Award for Excellence in Obstetrics, and the UC OBGYN Residency Espirit de Corps Award. She is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and son, cheering on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in all sports, enjoying the Cincinnati food scene, and reading historical fiction.
