Michael Javorski, MD, is a cardiothoracic surgeon with the Christ Hospital Physicians – Heart & Vascular who treats patients at The Christ Hospital in Mt. Auburn.
Seeing the satisfaction that his father realized as an anesthesiologist inspired Dr. Javorski to pursue a career in medicine. “He loved what he did in spite of the long hours of work, and he was able to help so many people and make a difference in their lives,” he says. He developed a fascination with the dynamics and physiology of the heart during grad school, which convinced him that he wanted to be a heart specialist. “As a former collegiate athlete, I was drawn to cardiothoracic surgery for the technical expertise and the intricate teamwork required to succeed,” he adds. “The day I saw my first heart transplant, I knew this was what I was meant to do with my life.”
Dr. Javorski says his philosophy for providing care is to treat the whole patient and to consider everything they have to say about how they are feeling. “Many times, a patient’s ‘main problem’ is not the only problem,” he says. “It’s important to listen to each patient in order to fully understand what their problems are, what motivates them, and how we can move forward with their care.” He stresses the importance of patients being proactive and doing everything they can to take care of their health, not only for themselves, but so they can be there to help others and spend time with their friends and family.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Boston College where he played four years of collegiate football. He earned a Master of Science from Boston University in Medical Sciences. He earned his Medical Degree from Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine where he was named to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and he completed an integrated six-year residency in cardiothoracic surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. During the final year of his residency he served as Chief Resident and was awarded the Dr. Charles H. Bryan Annual Clinical Excellence Award in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
In his free time, Dr. Javorski enjoys exercising, traveling, spending time with family and friends, trying new restaurants, and watching all sports but especially football.
