Richard Bae, MD, FACC, is a board-certified physician with The Christ Hospital Physicians – Heart & Vascular who specializes in Interventional Echocardiology. He provides inpatient and outpatient care at the Mt. Auburn location.
Dr. Bae has extensive experience with interventional echocardiography and has been instrumental in advancing the field through research, pioneering new techniques and technologies, and through leadership and education.
Watching his sister undergo treatment for childhood cancer and the care she received from her providers inspired Dr. Bae to pursue a career in medicine so that he could likewise help restore others to heath. His philosophy of care is founded in a recognition that every patient comes from different backgrounds and has differing beliefs and goals for care. “I strive to present all treatment options, including investigational research options, in a way that is understandable so I can help them to choose a course with shared decision making,” he says.
Dr. Bae earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Georgetown University and his Medical Degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease and by the National Board of Echocardiography in adult comprehensive echocardiography. He is a member of the American Society of Echocardiography and the American Heart Association, and he is a Fellow with the American College of Cardiology.
When not providing care, Dr. Bae enjoys spending time with his wife and their three sons. He also enjoys bicycling, pickleball, and computer technology.
