Alexandru Costea, MD, is a board-certified physician with The Christ Hospital Physicians – Heart & Vascular. He specializes in cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology and provides inpatient and outpatient care at The Christ Hospital in Mount Auburn and The Christ Hospital Medical Center – Liberty Township.
Dr. Costea was inspired to pursue medicine at a young age by his father who served as Chief of Pediatrics in Braila, Romania. He says electrophysiology provides him an opportunity to combine his fascination with mathematics with his passion for caring for patients and saving lives.
He believes in developing a strong bond with patients at multiple levels to enhance the effectiveness of care. “An additional level of communication outside of medicine can build a connection and mutual appreciation of values and trust,” he says. “I believe this has a direct link to the success of a treatment or procedure.” He also urges his patients to be proactive when considering the health of their hearts. “You can change your own outcomes by living healthy,” he says.
Dr. Costea earned his Medical Degree from Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Romania. He completed his residency at the University of Louisville and fellowships with St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis and the University of Louisville. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiac Electrophysiology and in Cardiovascular Disease.
An avid athlete, Dr. Costea stays active with martial arts, hockey, skiing, and windsurfing. He also enjoys mathematics and learning other languages and he says his family is the epicenter of his life.
