About Jared A. Crasto, MD

Jared Crasto, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon with The Christ Hospital Physicians – Spine Surgery, specializing in minimally invasive surgery for a wide range of issues including herniated discs, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, arthritis, and spinal deformity. He also seeks to utilize motion-preserving surgeries such as cervical disc replacements.

The minimally invasive approach allows Dr. Crasto to perform surgical procedures on the spine through smaller access points, leaving much of the back’s natural anatomy, muscles, and ligaments intact. “This generally results in a faster recovery, less pain, a more natural feel, and less likelihood of future degeneration when compared to traditional surgery,” Dr. Crasto says.

Dr. Crasto is excited about the future of spine surgery with emerging techniques and procedures that show greater promise in relieving pain and getting patients back to a better quality of life. Still, he encourages patients not to rush into surgery; rather, they should establish a relationship with their spine surgeon who will explain all options, so they can make more informed decisions about their care.

“Patients should take their time to find a surgeon who is thoughtful, who can explain their condition in terms they understand, and inspires confidence that the recommended treatment plan has been specifically tailored to their needs,” Dr. Crasto recommends.

Dr. Crasto graduated from the University of Dayton with a Bachelor of Science in Premedicine. He earned his MD from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he received the Outstanding Senior Resident Award. He then travelled to Scottsdale, AZ to complete spine fellowship training with a focus on minimally invasive approaches at the Spine Institute of Arizona. He is a member of the North American Spine Society, the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Crasto has a passion for woodworking. His projects have ranged from small items such as cutting boards and serving trays, to large pieces of furniture including tables, wardrobes, and cabinets.

When he’s not in surgery or the woodshop, Dr. Crasto and his family enjoy exploring new restaurants, watching the Reds and Bengals, and enjoying relaxing evenings watching Netflix, with their French bulldog Luna always close by curled up on the couch. His time otherwise is spent with his son, Quincy, the newest addition to the family.
