Dr. Thawrani’s journey into medicine dates back to when he was in middle school, and the stories his uncle would share about his own experiences from medical school and becoming a doctor. “There was a glow in his eyes when he would talk about how patients improved after treatment. That inspired me,” Dr. Thawrani said. “Even now, when I see my patients feeling better, it makes me feel blessed and motivates me to do the same the next day.”
Treating patients for Dr. Thawrani begins with gaining a deeper understanding of their concerns, lifestyle and goals. “I don’t like to just treat the disease. I believe greatly in empathy,” Dr. Thawrani says. “I like to spend the time to understand each patient as a human being, then offer a treatment that is more personalized.”
Dr. Thawrani earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College in India. He continued there and at Inlaks & Budhrani Hospital in Pune, India, for his residency in orthopedic surgery. He then completed higher education in orthopedic surgery / fellowships at University of Minnesota in Twin Cities, Minn., at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York, at the University of Cincinnati and at The Christ Hospital.
