CINCINNATI (November 1, 2024) – The Christ Hospital Health Network wants the public to know about screenings and treatments for those diagnosed with lung cancer. Catching cancer earlier on can result in better outcomes for the patient.

On Monday, November 18 at Noon, healthcare providers at The Christ Hospital Health Network will host a free online webinar called “Lung Cancer: Clearing the Air on Early Detection & Treatment.” You can register for free by visiting this website. Julian Guitron, MD, thoracic surgeon, Krishna Gannamraj, DO, pulmonologist and Brittaney-Belle Gordon, MD, medical oncologist will answer any and all questions related to lung cancer.

Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths among American men and women. Smoking cigarettes in the leading cause of lung cancer but secondhand smoke, family history and environmental factors can also come into play. Many people with lung cancer may not have any symptoms until it’s in advanced stages.

“When detected early, lung cancer can be removed surgically, often without the need of chemotherapy or radiation,” said Dr. Guitron. “The best preventative measure to help lower your risk of lung cancer is to quit smoking if you haven’t already.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, both Kentucky and Ohio are in the top four states with the highest rates of adults smokers. According to the American Cancer Society, in the United States, more than 235,000 people will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year alone. While lung cancer is mainly diagnosed in people 65 or older, some patients can be diagnosed younger than 45. Lung cancer kills more people than colon, breast and prostate cancers combined.
