Skip the ER with The Christ Hospital Orthopedic Walk-In Clinic

We went ice skating over the weekend. It was a great time. Penelope, my daughter, did a great job. She took to it naturally, but that wasn’t the case for everyone. There was a large group of teenage kids that couldn’t quite get it together on the ice. They had so many wipeouts, and I was a little worried that one of them would sprain or break something. Slips, falls, bumps, bruises and more—accidents are happening everywhere this time of year, and you might find yourself needing to see a professional for your injury. Luckily, The Christ Hospital Orthopedic Walk-In Clinic is now open. I checked in with Justin Hawk, PA-C, to find out all about it.

What is the purpose of the Orthopedic Walk-In Clinic?

Same-day orthopedic care is what the walk-in clinic is all about. Justin said, “We provide same- or next-day orthopedic services on a walk-in or call-in basis. This includes imaging such as X-ray, evaluation by an orthopedic provider, diagnosis and treatment. Treatment may include prescription, bracing, splinting, injection, physical therapy and/or referral to one of our orthopedic or spine specialists. You will see a certified physician assistant with extensive orthopedic experience.”

What if I need an X-ray?

If you happen to possibly have a broken bone or need X-rays or other imaging, Justin assured me, “We will perform X-rays on site that will be reviewed with the patient during their visit.”

One of the biggest services of the walk-in clinic is to provide resources for follow-up care. Justin said, “One of the main purposes of the orthopedic walk-in clinic is to determine if the patient requires further urgent or non-urgent follow-up and to get the patient set up to see one of our specialists, if necessary, in a timely fashion.”
