Important Update: Cigna and The Christ Hospital Health Network Negotiations

We want to share important information regarding The Christ Hospital Health Network’s relationship with Cigna and upcoming changes that may affect your healthcare coverage.

Our contract for Cigna’s Medicare Advantage product is set to expire at midnight on December 31, 2024. We began discussions with Cigna in the summer of 2024 and continue to meet weekly to work toward an agreement that ensures fair and equitable payments for the care you receive. This is essential for us to continue delivering the nationally recognized patient experience and clinical care you deserve.

What’s Important for You to Know About the Negotiations

1. Current Status

  • Access is unchanged until Dec 31, 2024: Patients can continue to receive care from The Christ Hospital Health Network as usual. We’re committed to negotiating with Cigna to ensure access for the future.

2. Why Negotiations Are Happening

  • Contract renewals are a regular part of health systems doing business with insurance companies. Our hope is that both parties can ultimately reach a fair and equitable agreement going into 2025.

3. What If No Agreement Is Reached by Dec 31, 2024?

  • Out-of-Network Impact: Without an agreement, The Christ Hospital would be out-of-network for Cigna Medicare Advantage plans in 2025. This could affect coverage and costs for patients who continue receiving care here.

4. Steps Patients Can Take

  • Explore Other Plans: Open enrollment for Medicare Advantage runs from October 15 to December 7, 2024. Patients may wish to switch to an alternative plan that guarantees in-network access to The Christ Hospital in 2025. You can access a list of accepted plans by clicking here.

  • Contact Cigna: Patients can call Cigna (using the number on their card) to voice their preference to keep The Christ Hospital Health Network as an in-network provider.

5. Continuity of Care Options for Ongoing Treatment

  • Eligibility for Continuity of Care: Patients with chronic or acute conditions, ongoing treatment, or those who are pregnant may qualify to maintain their care here temporarily, even if we are out-of-network.

  • Duration of Coverage: Continuity of Care coverage may extend for the course of treatment or up to 90 days, whichever is shorter, or through the postpartum period for pregnant patients.

  • Support with Continuity of Care: Cigna has directed us to advise patients to initiate the Continuity of Care process by calling the customer service phone number on the back of their member ID card. This line is open 24/7, our team can assist in providing any relevant information or filling out any forms as necessary.
