​​​​​​​Adult Cardiology Fellowship Program Curriculum

A Robust Curriculum Geared Toward Fostering Lifelong Success

The Christ Hospital Cardiology Fellowship Program is designed to help fellows develop their clinical skills, foster strong relationships with colleagues and pursue their career goals. 

The curriculum follows a block schedule (see sample block schedule) with required and elective rotations. The educational experience is enhanced by lectures, journal clubs, morning report, research presentations and continuing medical education symposiums. 

As fellows progress in skills and knowledge, their clinical and patient management responsibilities increase. Attending faculty members provide graded supervision and work closely with fellows to help them achieve established course objectives and competency goals. Fellows also will gain leadership skills as they provide supervision of residents and advanced practice providers. At all times, the fellows will work closely with an attending. 

Required rotations include (based on ACGME requirements) :

  • Acute and chronic heart failure, cardiac mechanical assist devices

  • Cardiac catheterization

  • Cardiac surgery

  • Cardiology clinical service/non-critical patient telemetry monitoring

  • Coronary Care Unit

  • Echo simulation/training

  • Electrophysiology

  • Imaging, including cardiovascular computed tomography (CT)/magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), echocardiography and nuclear imaging and transesophageal echocardiography (TEE)

  • Structural heart disease 

  • Vascular surgery

  • Longitudinal Outpatient clinic  

  • Electives

  • Simulator (for technical skills) 

Elective rotations 

Fellow in good standing will have option to choose from the following electives:

  • Adult congenital heart disease

  • Autonomic Dysfunction

  • Cardiac CT and cardiac MRI to meet level 2 or 3 training guidelines

  • Cardio-oncology

  • Chronic Angina Clinic

  • Electrophysiology lab

  • Intraoperative 3D TEE

  • Peripheral vascular disease

  • Research

  • Structural heart disease

  • Amyloid Clinic

  • Women’s Heart Center 

  • Pulmonary Hypertension
