The Performing Arts Medicine Program

The Performing Arts Medicine program at The Christ Hospital Physical and Occupational Therapy Centers focuses on the special health care needs of dancers, actors, singers and musicians. Using specialized equipment and health care professionals trained in the arts, the program promotes injury prevention and treatment, as well as general health and wellness.

Services

The Christ Hospital Physical and Occupational Therapy Centers offers the following services:

  • Pilates for rehab, post rehab and fitness conditioning
  • Physical therapy with therapists trained in a variety of manual therapy techniques
  • All physical therapists are certified Pilates instructors
  • Postural evaluations for performing artists with a doctor's referral
  • Dance medicine injury evaluation and rehab
  • Massage therapy referrals
  • Voice and hearing specialist



Staff
Jane Gruesser - Certified Physical Therapist and Pilates Instructor
Jane Gruesser earned a B.S. in Biology from the University of Memphis in 1984. She completed her physical therapy training in 1991, graduating from the University of Tennessee at Memphis. Jane has worked in a variety of physical therapy settings in her 18 years of practice including: outpatient orthopedics, acute care, acute rehabilitation and home health care. Jane’s holistic approach to her practice has been influenced by completing four years of Feldenkrais training, a 100-hour immersion study of Anusara yoga, and most recently receiving Stott Pilates certification. Jane views her practice at the Pilates Studio as an opportunity to share her 18 years of experience in body awareness and body mechanics with clients who desire to live more conscious, healthy lifestyles.

Patty Phillips - Certified Pilates Instructor
Patty Phillips is a Qualified Pilates instructor from the Ron Fletcher Program of Study. She has studied directly with Ron Fletcher, one of the original students of Joseph Pilates. In October 2007, she earned her national Pilates certification, one of fourteen PMA-certified teachers in the state of Ohio. Prior to her position at the Pilates Studio of Spectrum Rehabilitation, Patty taught Pilates for five years at the Pilates Center of Cincinnati. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biomedical Communications from The Ohio State University in 1979.
