​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Custom Design Benefits and The Christ Hospital have teamed up to offer employees and their covered dependents enrolled in your employee medical plan an innovative new program to provide hip and knee replacements! Through The Christ Hospital Joint Care Center of Excellence, eligible participants in need of a total-hip or total-knee replacement will receive a comprehensive package of care including:

  • Orthopaedic physician assessment

  • Pre-surgical testing services

  • Joint replacement surgery

  • Inpatient hospital care

  • Post-discharge services

In addition, your employer will waive all co-pays related to your surgery, which can amount to $1500 in savings to you for each participant who elects to participate in the program.

  

Who is eligible?

Covered employees and covered dependents requiring an uncomplicated total knee or total hip replacement procedure.

What care is included as part of this program?​​

Phases​

Services included in the Joint Replacement Program​


Orthopedic Assessment​

  • Initial orthopedic visit to determine surgical neccessity. 

  • ​Required imaging (i.e: Xrays, MRI, Bone Scan)

Pre-Operative (“Pre-Op”) Services​

The following to occur within The Christ Hospital Health Network prior to surgery: 

Medical clearance performed by a The Christ Hospital Physician - Primary care (including labs)

  • Pre-op education class at The Christ Hospital (TCH) 

  • Pre-admission testing at TCH

  • Pre-op discharge plan (by phone by a social worker).

The following services are excluded from the Joint Replacement Program and are not included in the program: 

  • Pre-operative specialty consults required (i.e., cardiology, endocrine, etc.) 

  • ​Voluntary pre-operative autologous blood donation.

​Surgery and Post-Operative (“Post-Op”) Services​

Surgery (both technical and professional fee), including:

  • ​Hip or knee implant(s)

  • Therapies

  • Imaging 

  • Anesthesiology

  • Pathology professional fees (i.e: biopsy)

Inpatient stay, including: 

  • Offered private room and board

  • All medications

  • Equipment

  • Lab work

  • Physical therapy

  • ​​Hip or knee implant(s)

  • Required imaging

Specialty consults required during the Joint Replacement Program (i.e., cardiology, endocrine, infectious disease, etc.).​


​Post-op discharge plan: initial plan reviewed by a TCH physician after surgery to incorporate any required changes/modifications. The Post-op discharge plan will address travel considerations.


For further clarification, private rooms are excluded from the Joint Replacement Program and are not included in the program (unless a private room is medically neccessary).​​


Post-Discharge​

The following outpatient durable medical equipment (“DME”) is included:

  • ​Cane

  • ​Walker

  • CPM (continous passive motion machine) (up to fourteen (14) days or such longer period prescribed by a TCH physician)

  • Reacher/Grabber

  • Crutches

  • Shoe horn

  • Long handle sponge

  • ​Sock aid

  • ​Other TCH physician- prescribed DME

For further clarification, the following services are excluded from the Joint Replacement Program and not included: 

  • Post - discharge acute inpatient rehabilitation stay (i.e: skilled nursing facility)

  • Post-discharge outpatient physical therapy

  • ​Home health care

Other​

  • ​​Access to TCH patient service representative via phone and/or e-mail

  • ​Discharge summary sent to local primary care physician

  • ​Garage parking.
